COMMUNITY BASE DOULA

Our community doulas not only provide full spectrum services to those living in the city of Richmond, we also serve the families in communities that often go unseen. PRENATAL NUTRITION EDUCATION
We understand nutritional risks associated with pregnancy, and to decrease the probability of complications and difficult deliveries due to poor nutrition (low birth weight, preterm delivery, infant mortality, and nutrition related birth defects); we promote healthy habits during pregnancy by supporting and encouraging a healthy diet, physical activity and stress reducing techniques during pregnancy.
POSTPARTUM NUTRITION EDUCATION
Helps to develop long term healthy nutrition practices to benefit mommy’s, baby’s, and family’s health by providing information on the positive effects of good nutrition and how it can support breastfeeding and many physical and emotional changes after pregnancy.
BREASTFEEDING / CHESTFEEDING SUPPORT
Breastfeeding / Chestfeeding nutritional support services help to inform new mothers about the importance of breastfeeding and to provide support through the breastfeeding process. The class equips mothers with effective breastfeeding techniques and assist them with lactation management. This class uses multidimensional learning opportunities.
MINDFULNESS (BREATH OF LIFE)
Healthy Hearts Plus II provides facilitator led mindfulness techniques called “The Breath of Life”. Deep breathing for relaxation is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body; when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. This technique is utilized for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum mothers to help reduce anxiety and stress, which can be directly related to preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and even pre-term birth.
Baskets include but not limited to, breast pads, nursing bras, camisoles, breastmilk bags, feeding coverups, breast pumps, lanolin, diapers, baby essentials, and personal journals.
